I can’t believe we just celebrated Noah’s first birthday last weekend! It truly went by SO FAST! I didn’t believe people when they would say time flies. But here we are! I was really torn between having a small family only gathering or a medium sized party with family and close friends. After asking my Instagram followers, I decided to go with the latter. I know the first year is such a big milestone and it’s important to celebrate being parents for a year! This is a birthday Noah is not going to remember so it’s definitely all about the parents BUT I can’t wait to show him pictures one day. I decided to go with a Mexican fiesta theme and I am SO happy with how things turned out, sharing all details below.
If you’re new here, I was born in Mexico and lived there for 8 years. It was important for me to have authentic elements in Noah’s party that reminded me of my childhood. I shopped at a lot of Mexican stores where they have things imported from Mexico, and my mom helped me a lot! We ended up inviting 60 people and about 40 showed up so I would say it was a successful turn out! Unfortunately, Noah was sick that day so he wasn’t the happiest like he normally is :-/ but I mean what can you expect. It seems like babies are ALWAYS sick!
Let’s talk decor! We had some papel picado garlands in our kitchen to make it more lively and authentic. This is authentic Mexican decor especially for restaurants and festivals/celebrations. If you’ve seen the movie Coco, you understand. Amazon sells some options but they weren’t exactly what I wanted and so expensive! We bought ours in Chamblee in Atlanta at a place called Plaza Fiesta.
In our dining room, we did a small balloon arch, linked here. Also got this high chair decor. And the main thing I was most excited about was the table with all the sweets! I bought a ton of Mexican candy and little Mexican baskets. I also had conchas (Mexican pastries) that my mom got at Supermercado Jalisco off Pleasant Dale in Duluth.
The cakes were done by Santini mini Sweets and not only did they look exactly how I wanted but they were DELICIOUS! I used her back for my baby shower and she did the cookies. I highly recommend her if you’re in Atlanta! I bought the cake toppers on Etsy. One was custom made that had Noah’s name and the other one was a donkey piñata.
I also had decorative sugar cookies that my cousin brought from Charlotte. They’re only sold in Charlotte, so if you live there this is where they’re from.
My mom also let me borrow a couple of Mexican table cloths that I had on the tables. By the fire place, we had thisUNO banner and balloons on the ground.
I also had this garland that has all the month milestones and I added Noah’s pictures. I set this up by the food.
For flowers, I had about 4 large arrangements my mom made for me the night before. We did a mixture of flowers and all bright colors. As a vase, we used large jalapeño cans to go with the theme. I also had small succulents spread throughout and had them in Mexican cans as well.
I also bought a case of Mexican cokes and decorated them by attaching loteria cards. Loteria is a popular game in Mexico and it’s like bingo. I thought it was something cute to dress the bottles up a little. I had them by the cooler in case people wanted to drink them or take one home!
Since we didn’t have many kids come, I didn’t do goodie bags. I did get some mini Mexican purses for the little girls and also bought some maraca shakers. The girls loved them! The candy of course was up for grabs!
For food and drink, we had food catered from Frontera Mex Mex Grill in Georgia. We did a taco bar since I wanted something that would be easy to eat standing up. We also did chips and salsa and cheese dip to snack on. For alcoholic drinks we had Mexican beer and my dad made margaritas- they were such a hit!
You can shop my dress here, and earrings here. Noah’s jacket is from here and I added the iron on letters form hobby lobby. His onesie is from here.
I was SO happy with how everything turned out and it seemed like everyone had a good time! I’m sad Noah was sick (with a cold AND double ear infection) but life happens. Thanks so much to Morgan for capturing all these photos featured in my blog. I’ve known Morgan for a few years and have used her for all my family photos, events, and blogger pics- strongly recommend her! Thanks for reading 🙂
Congratulations! Noah s party was perfect and beautiful!!! You did awesome job!!! Love you!!
Where did you get the table cloth for your dessert table?
The same place where I bought most of the decor! It was a little Mexican market.
Where is your dress from?!?! 😍 Such a beautiful party, my daughter was sick with a double ear infection on her first birthday too! She’s almost 8 and wants an Encanto party, using lots of your party ideas for hers!!! 🥳
