It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these travel guides since all the travel restrictions 🙁 We were finally able to take a road trip to Highlands, NC so we could get away from all the craziness and unplug. I visited Highlands years ago when I was in High School, so I was excited to check it out now that I’m older and have a family of my own. Hope you enjoy this travel guide and reach out if you have any questions.
We chose highlands for a few reasons, the first one is that it’s only 2 hours away from Atlanta, which is an easy trip with a toddler. We also loved the idea of going somewhere that’s not as hot! Atlanta is in the 90s right now and the Highlands had great weather in the 70s. We rented this perfect Airbnb, which was in a great location so close to downtown!
The two main things to do in the Highlands are eat and hike, so that’s what I will be focusing on. Some of the restaurants were closed due to COVID, but I will still include them in my list in case they open back up again. There are so many hiking options as well and we checked out a few of them.
Restaurants
Blue Bike Cafe (breakfast)
Hikes
Sunset Rock (have a picnic up top and enjoy the views!)
Dry Falls (you can walk under the waterfalls)
Satullah Mountain
Whiteside Mountain
Glen Falls
Lastly, we also decided to check out Julep Farm, which was 15 miles away from the Highlands in Dillard, GA. I highly recommend checking them out! It’s a modern farm resort and it’s so cute! I definitely want to come back and do a staycation with my husband. They have a few cottages you can stay at, a farm to check out some animals, coffee shop and store, and a restaurant. Also very family friendly! We got there early around 10:30am to check out the area and then went to lunch at 11. I definitely recommend getting there early because it gets busy quickly!
